ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS PLANNED.
Architect: Mr. Percy Everett, Chief Architect of the Department of Public Works, Victoria.
Builders: Prentice Builders Pty. Ltd.
The chevron-shaped four-storey ward block now nearing completion in Broadmeadows, Victoria, at theĀ GreenvaleĀ Sanatorium, will form one of the most modern structures of this type in the Commonwealth.
Many years’ observation of the direction of boisterous and rain-bearing winds in this locality has led to the. adoption of this type of plan.
The curved solaria at the end of the ward blocks are used by amnulant patients as lounge and dining room.
The balconies, which are only enclosed with woven wire, provide an all-season open-air nursing. The older type timber pavilions house 26 patients, whereas the larger ward block would accommodate 144.
Scattered pavilions have many desirable features, but dthe problem of servicing from a central type to the more distant groups has led to the concentration of patients in one large ward block.
An auditoriumĀ for cinema and concert for the entertainment of patients is also under construction.
