PUMP BROKE
That Was Four Weeks Ago, and It’s Still Broken.
NO BATHS AT GREENVALE
The old pump is broken; not the village pump, but the pump at the Greenvale Sanatorium.
With a wheeze and a flu-like cough, it gave out about four weeks ago when the dry spell broke.
As a result of the broken pump, patients are still unable to obtain a bath.
However, it was stated yesterday that a limited amount of water is available for a sponge-bath.
Not withstanding this, a great deal of inconvenience is causod through the lack of pumping facilities.
Though a new pump has been ordered, sanatorium authorities are unable to say when it will be installed.
It is not known whether patients are to go without a proper bath “for another 10 weeks,” as was predicted by a corespondent in The Sun yesterday.
During the dry period several consumptive patients had to be sent from Greenvale back to their homes on account of the lack of water.
It was only after a deputation from the Trades Hall had waited on the Government that an additional supply of water was obtained for the sanatorium.
This amounted to 400 gallons a day, and was not sufficient to provide baths for tho patients.
Several weeks have elapsed since tho old pump declared that its pumping days were over.
It now remains a silent witness to the complaints of tho patients, who are beginning to wonder when they are again to receive a good warm bath.
