“Official and Other Fowls. In moving in the Legislative Assembly yesterday that £42 be fixed as the maximum expenditure on the Royal commission which inquired into the management of the Greenvale Sanatorium, the Chief Secretary (Mr. Bowser’) mentioned that several changes had been made at the sanatorium.
Dr. Browns fowls were, he said, to be kept separate from the “official” fowls. Mr. Hogan (Can., Warrenheip) said that several witnesses at the inquiry committed brazen and repeated perjury.
One at least of those witnesses received money from the Crown. Was the Chief Secretary going to take action against those witnesses?
A book showing how poultry had been wrong fully disposed of had disappeared.
Mr Bowser, – Why did you not tell me about the book?
Mr. Hogan, – Everyone else in the Health department except the Minister had been asked.
The commissioner directed that it should be produced, but did not insist on it.
It was explained that one missing record had been eaten by a pig, but not even that explanation was forthcoming for this “fowl book.”
If Mr. Bowser looked at the file in the possession of Detective Piggott he would find important statements which had been excluded from the inquiry.
The motion was agreed to.
