The shortage of nurses in Victoria is the worst for years.
Some matrons attribute it to the absence of so many nurses in England.
Others say there are “just not enough to go round” and that new hospitals are attracting them away from others.
Seventeen hospitals on Saturday advertised for nurses and the Victorian Bush Nursing Association could place 40 immediately.
Among those advertising are Queen Victoria Hospital, Prince Henry’s, Women’s. Children’s. Footscray Hospital, Mordialloc – Cheltenham, Frankston Community Hospital, Dandenong and District Hospital, Wonthaggi Hospital, Ovens District Hospital, Mortlake Hospital, Wimmera Base Hospital, West Gippsland Hospital, Ouyen Hospital, Bairnsdale Hospital, Swan Hill Hospital and Greenvale Sanatorium.
