The marriage of two popular members of the medical profession attracted a large gathering to the Elsternwick Methodist Church on December 5. The bridegroom was Dr. Raleigh Clarke, younger son of Mrs. Clarke and the late Mr. W. J. Clarke, of “Connewarre,” Orrong road, Elsternwick, and the bride was Dr. Curtis Edgerton, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Edgerton, of “The Priory,” Gleneira-road, Elsternwick. Bowls of water-lilies, cacti, and watsonias were artistically arranged about the church, and over each aisle was an arch, from which hung a wedding-bell. The Rev. J. J. Brown performed the ceremony, and while the bridal party were in the vestry Miss Elva Trueman sang “God Be With You,” Mr. James Edgerton gave his daughter away. She wore a graceful gown of ivory brocaded crepe de chine, trimmed with lace, pearls and orange blossom. The train was lined with pale blue georgette, and embroidered with pearls and silver thread. A wreath of orange blossom that her mother had worn on her wedding day secured her handworked veil, and she carried a bouquet of waterlilies, orange blossom and cacti. The bridegroom’s gift was a pearl necklace. Her small niece, Miss Carol Edgerton, was train-bearer, wearing a petal frock of ivory georgette trimmed with mauve and silver ribbon and mauve, pink and blue flowers. She carried a horse-shoe of flowers on her arm, and wore a pearl brooch, gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were Miss Ada Barlow (cousin of the bride) and Miss Dulce Clarke (sister of the bridegroom). Their pretty frocks were of mauve satin crepe shot with silver, and trimmed with mauve and silver lace. Pale blue and pink flowers appeared at shoulder and waist and their mauve net veils were wreathed with silver leaves, finished at the side with a posy of mauve, pink and blue flowers. Their bouquets were to match and each maid wore a string of pearls, gift of the bridegroom. His brother Will was best man and Mr. V. Edgerton, brother of bride, groomsman. The reception was held at Wickliffe House, St. Kilda, the decorations being of pink carnations and sweet peas. Mrs. Edgerton received in a becoming gown of mole satin marocain trimmed with terra-cotta and silver grey flowers adorned her black hat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a three-piece costume of black crepe cape being lined with figured crepe de chine. The honeymoon was spent at Sassafras and Launceston, the bride travelling in a grey maroncain frock trimmed with paisley crepe de chine and grey cape lined with the paisley; grey hat lined with blue and trimmed with blue ribbon and posy of blue and pink flowers at the side, Dr. and Mrs. Raleigh Clarke in tend to reside at St. Helen’s, Tasmania, where the doctor was bought a practice.
