
SIX people and a baby suffered minor injuries when this passenger bus (above) had its rear top section ripped off near Broadmeadows last night.
Four ‘ other people in the bus escaped unscathed.
The bus skidded as it took a sharp bend in Ardle rd. and crashed into a tree.
Beyond the tree was a 10ft. ditch.
The injured were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital by ambulance, and were allowed to leave after they had been treated for shock and abrasions.
They are:
Claire Maguire, 26, nurse;
Arthur Line, 29, wardsman;
Shirley Manwill, 18, nurse;
Betty Wraitht, 22, nurse;
Keith Randall, 32, employee at Greenvale
Sanatorium; ‘Mrs. Hannah Ward, 44, and her baby, Paul, 9 months, both of Greenvale.
City-bound Five of the injured were employees at the Greenvale T.B. Sanatorium.
They had just finished work, and with Mrs. Ward and her son, were travelling back to the city on the 6.45 p.m. Greenvale Melbourne bus.
The bum was left al the Broadmeadows police station last night.
Later, Broadmeadows a police charged a 48-year old driver with driving under the influence of liquor.

EIGHT PEOPLE were injured when this big passenger bus ran of the road and crashed into a tree near the Broadmeadows police station, in Ardle-rd. Broadmeadows, last night.
The driver was charged later at Moonee Ponds police station with having driven under – the influence of liquor and with negligent driving.
The bus was carrying 15 people from the Greenvale Sanatorium to the city when it left the road at a sharp corner.
Those taken to hospital were:
Mrs. Hanna Ward, 44
Miss Shirley Manwill, 18;
Miss Clare McGuire, 26;
Mr. T. D. Wraight, 22;
Mr. A. Ling, 29; and
Mr. K. Kendall, 32.
