APPEAL FOR DANCER 1938

For several years a group of entertainers has been giving its services for the benefit of hospital patients.

One of the group was a very young dancer named Betty Pounder.

Now that Miss Pounder has won the Espinosa scholarship for three months’ tuition in London, her services have not been forgotten by the hospital authorities or the patients.

In forwarding a subscription to the fund, which is being raised to pay her return fare to London, the medical superintendent of the Greenvale Sanatorium (Dr. M. E. Playle) has enclosed this note:

“Miss Pounder, as a member of the Summerlea Entertainers, has been a frequent and constant visitor to this sanatorium, as well as to other institutions, over a number of years, when she has given great pleasure with her dancing. This sanatorium is delighted with Miss Pounder’s success in gaining the scholarship, and is grateful to her for the time she has devoted to giving pleasure to sick people.”

Miss Pounder has been engaged by the State Theatre to appear on the stage with Bert Howell and his band in dances arranged by Espinosa. Her engagement will begin on Friday.

A limited number of tickets for the dance recital at the University Union Theatre this evening is still available at Glen’s.

The Mayor of Fitzroy (Councillor J. E. Kerr), where Miss Pounder lives, will attend the recital.

She will be presented to the public by the Lord Mayor (Councillor E. Campbell), and will dance a solo.

An appeal is being made for £100 to pay Miss Pounder’s return fare. Contributions sent to The Editor of “The Argus,” 365 Elizabeth street, C1, will be acknowledged in these columns.
