Complaints About Greenvale

“The Greenvale Sanatorium is the most starved institution of its kind in the state.

Being wholly dependent on the Government; we are unable to obtain any money for improvements of any kind, and the place is so unattractive and comfortless that patients leave before they are properly cured.

This declaration was made by Dr B. C. Scott, the medical .officer of the institution, in evidence before the Health Commission today.

“Recently, during the dry season, we had to send nearly all our patients home because of lack of water.

We had previously asked for a large tank to be installed to catch rainwater, but the request was refused.

“The patients can have a hot bath only once a week — on Saturdays — as it is only then that the boiler providing hot water is in operation. I as medical officer, have no authority over the day staff, and cannot alter this. One bath a week has been the rule of the institution for 20 years. We are also very badly in need of a recreation room, but have been unable to obtain a grant to provide it.”
