Will It Be “Abolished?
The Chief Secretary (Dr. Argyle) said yesterday that the Greenvale Sanatorium will have to be abolished soon.
Dr. Argyle pointed out that the site had been selected some time ago, probably with an eye to future developments.
It was, however, many miles from a railway station and had no water supply.
A heavy expenditure would be involved in placing adequate, water at the disposal of the. sanatorium.
Referring lo a recent inspection of the institution and a critical report by a veterinary officer of the Agricultural department, Dr. Argyle said that the inspector had gone out at the request of the Chief Secretary’s department’ for the purpose of inspecting the cattle.
The inspector arrived at the place when certain alterations ordered by Dr. Argyle were in progress.
He found a condition of disorder resulting from the alterations.
Dr. Argyle added that the whole question of tuberculosis would have to be made an important matter of Government policy.
At present the accommodation available for consumptives was entirely inadequate.
