Greenvale Tuberculosis Sanatorium would be converted early next year into a home for aged people, Mr. Barry, Health Minister, announced last night.
Buildings and facilities at Greenvale would be modified to provide excellent accommodation for all types of old folk, he added.
The hospital block would accommodate nearly 200 old people needing nursing or special attention.
Mr. Barry listed these plans to aid Victoria’s aged:
ARARAT: 20-bed unit now being occupied.
BAIRNSDALE: 12 – bed unit 40 be opened soon.
Plans will be developed for an extra 80 beds at this centre.
GEELONG; 100-150 beds to be provided.
Service block is ready.
HAMILTON: 25-bed unit to be provided by converting former- nurses’ home.
KERANG: Early chance of 25 beds being ready by utilising old hospital.
New hospital building now occu-pied.
MILDURA: 15-20 beds to be made available.
WODONGA: 12 beds to be provided at new hospital.
CITY: Mt. Royal, Park- ville: 80 beds, for which plans are being finalised.
Gladswood, Ascot Vale: 60 beds.
Tenders being called for new building.
Clarermont, South Melbourne: 25 bed unit to be opened soon.
