PATIENTS WANT DOCTOR BACK

“Angered by the removal of their medical superintendent, Dr. Margaret Playle, 142 patients of the Greenvale Sanatorium have signed a motion of confidence in her, and it has been sent to the Premier, Mr McDonald.

Dr. Playle, who has been 23 years at the Sanatorium, has been appointed senior medical officer at the Tuberculosis Bureau.

One woman patient, in a letter to The Herald, said it was a tragedy for Dr. Playle to have her life’s work taken from her when she was due to retire in two years.

The head of the health Department, Mr. W. L. Rowe, said Dr. Playle’s transfer was not demotion.

The new position carried the same status and salary.
